Valentine's Day Giveaway

Valentine's Day this year has me thinking about a couple of different quotes. This one by Elizabeth Stone has been resonating with me lately:

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

I never really understood this quote entirely, until I had my son. I just went to kindergarten "orientation" for the school he will attend later this fall and I swear being so emotional had nothing to do with the fact that I am 6 months pregnant. I would have felt the same way even if I wasn't!

My second thought is about a section of my wedding vows. My husband and I both felt it was important to address the challenging parts about being married in our ceremony. So we included the line:

"I love and accept you with both positive and negative traits."

I still smile when I think about how our friends and family chuckled when we said that to each other. Twelve years later it has become a bit of a joke between me and Brett. If one of us is being especially annoying you might hear the other person muttering under their breath: "With both positive and negative traits...."

It ain't all Cinderella, is it? But it is, like the rest of life, the divine and the mundane all mixed together. And since I have been especially grumpy throughout this entire pregnancy, I am feeling thankful to have a husband and a little boy loving me unconditionally, with all my negative traits of late.

In honor of all my awesome customers and this Valentine's Day, I am giving away two free necklaces as pictured above. You will have your choice of the "Sweet Hearts Necklace" personalized with your own initials or the "XO Necklace," a sweet sentiment that will last way past Valentine's Day.

Just leave me a comment about the favorite part of your own wedding vows, a Valentines memory (recent or from long ago), or just something you are thankful for this Valentine's Day. I will notify winners on February 14th. Please be sure to leave me your email so I know how to get in touch with you.

Hugs and kisses to you and your families!

Studio Update

A few entries ago I told you about my dream to have a stand alone studio in my backyard.
I am excited to say that we are making tons of progress!

It's going to be very small, only 120 square feet. But will accommodate two jewelry benches and my blowtorch. Currently my torch is in the garage and most days it is a pain running from my basement where I work now, to my upstairs every time I need to solder a piece. So I am really looking forward to having everything in one place.

Also, I haven't mentioned here on my blog yet, but I am 6 months pregnant (more on that in future posts) so my nesting instinct is going nuts wishing for a little more separation of work life vs. family life. I cannot express how eager I am to get this finished, ventilated, dry walled, painted, etc. prior to the baby coming! We are currently submitting information to our home owners association for their approval so wish us luck on that.

More updates soon...

A Relaxing Dinner Party

Typically I would never describe my dinner parties as relaxing. But I recently hosted one that made me realize that "relaxing dinner party" is in fact not an oxymoron.

For this reason, I feel compelled to put in a plug for my friend Katie Bruzdzinski and her personal chef company called Eat. Her website is http://www.icookyoueat.com. I always love the sound of that sentence: "I cook, you eat!" (When someone is saying it to me, that is).

Katie and I started our businesses at the same time a few years ago. She laid out an amazing spread of food at my launch party oh so long ago. I was happy to be able to hire her this year to do a dinner party as a special holiday thank you to my studio managers and their sweeties.

Here we all are, so happy because Katie waited on us all evening.

Katie tells me that she cooks a lot for new moms who are home exhausted with their babies. Friends will often go in together and hire her for a week to shop, cook and clean up. Also she gets hired by busy working moms who want a nutritious meal at home with their families even if their own schedules are too busy for cooking. Sounds divine, doesn't it?
