October's birthstone has always been a favorite of mine. My parents gave me opal jewelry to wear when I was a little girl. I remember feeling then that there is something intriguing and mysterious about opals, and I still feel the same way now.
The stones I use for the Hot Mama Jewelry birthstones are very feminine and dainty. But the opals are so fiery they still manage to jump out at you with their green/orange hues that glow through the iridescent white.
So we're celebrating fall and the move into the new studio space for Hot Mama Designs this month by giving away two one-disc necklaces with attached opals as pictured above. Of course you get to choose from our options what disc size, lettering size and word/name/initial you want us to stamp on the sterling to personalize it just for you or a loved one.

I love fall for a few reasons. One - the smells - the leaves changing, the change from the searing heat to the cool crisp days. I love pumpkins and candycorn and halloween and everything that fall brings with it! Also got married in the fall so October definitely holds a special place in my heart. Love your jewelry and I never got an opal as a gift! How funny!
I would LOVE to win your contest because I am a huge fan and love your designs. I'd wear it with pride and advertise Hot Mama throughout NYC. It would give me something to talk about other than tax abatements, time-on-the-market, and bidding strategies. And I would feel every day, a connection to my Boulder friend (you) and I when I would touch it, I'd know your fingers hammered it just for me.

fall is the best. it is the season in which halloween & thanksgiving come. you get to crazy creative with costumery and then think about all that you have to be thankful in your life. all with crisp exhilarating weather.
Fall. I could name the obvious reasons I love it... burnt marshmallows, white pumpkins, caramel apples with only the caramel licked off, smell of leaves burning and so on. But why I would love that necklace you ask? My sweet baby boy was born in October and he is quickly approaching his very first birthday. I would absolutely love to have something around my neck reminding me of him and how blessed I am to be his mom.
I love the changing leaves, getting back into a routine after a carefree summer and thinking ahead to the holidays!

my life loves Fall for the return of her favorite decorating colors for our home .. .and more importantly for the return of Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks.
We celebrate fall with our annual search for the most perfect Pumpkin Patch .. and of course, the Texas State Fair. If you haven't had a Fletchers Corny Dog, a Belgian Waffle, a funnel cake, and Fried Butter all in 1 day --- have you really lived?!
Oh, fall. What's not to love, especially this year? Change is in the air, late season produce, birthdays, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, hot beverages are back... all things Hot Mamas love!

Not sure how I got your email but I love your jewelry! I'll be ordering for my Sister and I. The picture under the contest shows a pendant with the name Henry. I immediately thought of my friend's 2 1/2 yr old son who passed away in July 2008 due to a freak accident. He loved flowers and fall for the changing leaves. Sunny days, crisp air, beautiful colors and birthdays abound during fall in my world. Spring may be known for regeneration and warmth, but I think of fall as even warmer as you hold on to Indian Summer before the cold comes. If I won your beautiful necklace, I'd likely start one for a friend with two October children, as I already love my own!
Fall to me means apple picking, knitting, family times together, lots of oven roasted meals, and sweaters that would look beautiful with your jewelery!

Apple picking with my kids. Its a tradition we do every year. I'll do it till I can't pick no more. Even though we go out looking for only a dozen apples, somehow we come home with bags full. Who can say no to a 2 year old holding yet another of "the most perfect apple ever". In my neck of the woods we have several beautiful orchards to choose from. They have hayrides and one even has a storyteller. I have 3 children and we all have a blast.
I'd love to give a necklace to my October birthday-ed sister! Love stomping through leaves in fall! (but not raking them)
I too always wore opals as a young girl. I was fascinated by them. Perhaps I knew then what great meaning October would come to have in my life. I am launching my new business this October. My husband and I were married in October. And in 1 week (at our 4-year wedding anniversary) we will be accepted to adopt our first baby. I am so blessed, especially this October! I have been manifesting space for the new little one that's about to enter our lives. I would love a disc that says "baby" with the opal to celebrate the first major milestone in our adoption process. I would wear it with anticipation over the next year or so. I love fall because it's a huge wedding anniversary month in my family. My parents started the trend 34 years ago on October 24, 1975. I was then married on October 7, 2006, an absolutely beautiful day! This year, we are excited to celebrate the marriage of my cousin to his wonderful fiancee of 6 years - on the same October 24th as my parents!
Because my parents have been such amazing role models not only in life in general, but also in their marriage, I would love to do for my mom what I already have for myself - a HotMama necklace with her married monogram, their wedding date, and the opal stone for October.

Fall is a time that I cherish because instead of the kids playing outside in the summer light until bedtime, they crawl up on my lap to read and cuddle as the temps dip. My daughter Isabel celebrates her 1st birthday October 22nd, so Fall will always be very special. I think this time of year always reminds me how my life has changed for the better, and that change is reflected in the weather.

i love fall for so many reasons! cozy sweaters, fires in the fireplace, hot chocolate - and i love decorating the house for fall. i love to watch the leaves change colors and feel the cool crisp air. this is my son's first fall and i can't wait to take him to the pumpkin patch and apple picking and to dress him up for halloween. so many things to look forward to with fall and i feel so thankful for my life, family and friends around this time of year - especially with the holidays so close!

My favorite fall moments are watching my two year old son's face light up when we throw little helicopters in the air and watch them spin around us. Or running through a pile of leaves hearring them crunch under our feet. Of course the smells, colors and slight chill to the air is also nice but I'd say it is those small moments with my family that makes any season special.

I came upon your designs in a little baby boutique in Denver back in August. I am from Tennessee, and my daughter and I were driving to Ft. Collins for her freshman year at CSU. I also have a son, who was just born this year. (We are apparently afraid of having an empty nest.) Anyway, I hopped on your website today to get information to start my own charm bracelet, and saw your give-a-way offer. My daughter's birthday is October 10, and it just seemed fortuitous. Regarding my post above... As it turns out, we were placed on the adoption wait list on our actual wedding anniversary - October 8th! We are *overjoyed*! I just have to commemorate this somehow!
Unfortunately this fall has come to a screeching hault for my family. We lost my beautiful 4 year old nephew, Logan Bradley, in a tragic accident on October 3rd, 2009. We are in the works of getting his siblings and cousins and other family members necklaces made by you to wear and remember our "Logi Bear." We are all desperate to have something close to us that keeps him alive and in our thoughts always and your necklaces are the perfect way. We are forever changed and will see things through different eyes from now on. I feel such pain at every moment and I know that whatever I feel, my sister feels a 100 times more.
I would love to win this necklace for my sister in honor of her strentgh during this time of despair. She amazes me.
