Spring Blossoms

The apricot tree in our front yard is in full swing, which is usually an indicator of the weather getting warmer. But in Boulder, Colorado where I live, it typically dumps snow one last time just to make absolutely sure that you are as grateful as possible for spring.

I am prone to crankiness this time of year when winter feels never-ending. These blooms do remind me of one of my favorite poems that usually pulls me out of my funk when I read it:

But listen to me: for one moment,
Quit being sad, hear blessings
Dropping their blossoms all around you
-- Rumi

My best blessing today was watching my four year old son go skiing for the second time ever. He is so full of joy and confidence. He has no sense that he should even try to slow down, be scared, or proceed with caution. And since I am often a little too rule-bound, that is a feeling I would like to capture for myself on a more regular basis!
